Storytelling Capital of Nebraska
The Steel Wheels
The Steel Wheels have captured audiences across the country with their heady brew of original soulful mountain music and their deep commitment to roots and community. Based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, this dynamic four-piece string band marries old-time musical traditions with their own innovative sound and lifestyle, generating a truly magnetic revival.
Andy Offutt Irwin
Some people have inner-kids. Andy Offutt Irwin has an outer-kid. With a manic Silly Putty voice, astonishing mouth noises, and hilarious stories, he is equal parts mischievous schoolboy and the Marx Brothers, peppered with a touch of the Southern balladeer. People are drawn to him like magnets to a refrigerator. And inside, it’s all Mountain Dew and Jolt Cola.
To see the world through the eyes of a poet intensifies the color to brilliant and the feeling to magnificent. Twyla Hansen will sculpt and paint stories of life with the vision and poignancy that only a poet’s words can do. She is the third Nebraskan and first woman to hold the position of Nebraska State Poet, to which she was appointed by Governor Dave Heineman in November 2013.
