Travel through Nebraska’s sand sage prairies and rolling, grass-covered hills to North Platte’s Canteen District. With stories and songs along the way, participants will be immersed in 1940s America, and the story of a World War II experience that is a model of community spirit and patriotism. At a time when soldiers made brief stops in North Platte, locals came together to provide nourishment and comfort to thousands of troops passing through. The Lincoln County Historical Museum exhibit offers a moving look at this pivotal moment in history. Guests will enjoy a Canteen-style meal, just like the one served to the soldiers, while experiencing an informative presentation that brings this remarkable story to life.
