*Registration is required for this event.
Meet at the ArtBank McCook, 108 West D St.
Matt Reed, Pawnee Tribal Historic Preservation Officer from Pawnee, OK, will share history and narratives related to the Pawnee Nation. Participants will then board the bus to Massacre Canyon, Trenton and sites associated with the battle between the Pawnee and the Sioux. Matt Reed, Tom Baker, and Cathy Upton are prepared to help you ‘relive’ this historical event. Artifacts are on exhibit at the Hitchcock County Historical Museum which chronicle the massacre of 1873 for participants to examine.
Upon returning to McCook, the bus will stop at ArtBank McCook for a look at John Thein’s exhibit entitled Wounded Knee documenting the 1890 massacre of hundreds of Native Americans on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation near Wounded Knee, SD.
